Dr Strachan is available for referrals to his private practice in Stirling. Referrals for psychotherapy are particularly welcomed for patients who wish to gain a deeper understanding of, and work through, their difficulties. These can include anxiety, depression, or problems caused by recurring patterns in relationships, work, or poor self-image.
Dr Strachan offers treatment for a range of difficulties, including but not limited to, anxiety and depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, mental health difficulties related to autism spectrum conditions, trauma-related disorders, and personality disorder. Treatments are, as far as possible, evidence-based, and usually involve psychological therapy, pharmacological management, or a combination of the two as appropriate.
Please see the News page for current information on waiting times and other recent changes.
To book an appointment with Dr Strachan, a written referral from a GP must be faxed to the rooms before an appointment can be offered. As a Medicare requirement, all referrals should specify whether they are for ongoing management or Opinion and Report (“Item 291”). It is useful for referring GPs to include as much background and collateral information as possible (e.g. previous psychiatrist or psychologist letters, hospital discharge summaries, relevant pathology and imaging results). For 291 referrals, referrers must be responsible for ongoing management of the person referred.
These non-urgent referrals require that the patient is not in crisis or at immediate risk. For patients in crisis or at immediate risk, the public mental health crisis services can be accessed (e.g. Emergency Mental Health Triage on 13 14 65). Referrers also need to consider whether assessment in private psychiatric rooms is appropriate or inappropriate for each individual patient.
Non-urgent referrals can be made via fax on (08) 8490 2315.
Appointments and Fees
If the referral is accepted, patients will be contacted to arrange an appointment. Prospective patients will be required to complete a patient details form and standardised assessment tool in advance. They will be informed of fees, which are payable in full at the time of consultation via credit or debit card.
