Dr Alexander Strachan is a consultant psychiatrist and fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). He works in private practice in Stirling, South Australia, providing high quality, individualised care to those living in Adelaide and surrounding areas. As a medical doctor specialising in mental health, he has experience in providing mental health care within emergency department, inpatient, and community settings across the spectrum of general psychiatry.
Dr Strachan maintains a strong focus on psychological therapy. He offers long-term psychodynamic therapy (1-2 sessions per week) to people experiencing longterm depression, anxiety, or recurring patterns which have led to difficulties in relationships, employment, or general functioning. Psychodynamic therapy has a solid evidence base in treating a wide variety of disorders and is well-suited to those who wish to explore and work through their difficulties. In addition to psychodynamic therapy, Dr Strachan offers Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based interventions.
Dr Strachan also offers pharmacological management of a broad range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, and post-traumatic stress disorder. He sees patients from 18 years of age to 65 years, however patients outside this age-range may be accepted for psychological therapy on a case-by-case basis.
